The mutated flowers in Mystique combine sculpture, video and sound to form a surreal tableau. The flowers are brought to life by disembodied mouths that move in dream-like slow motion, laughing, kissing, snarling, exhaling, lips grinding together, and tongue sticking out, to a soundtrack of blood flowing through the heart and veins. Located where the flowers’ reproductive organs should be, the brightly colored mouths become visceral stand-ins for both flower and human anatomy.
